Chiropractic

From the Greek – "concerned with action"

In my practice, I emphasize a holistic, patient-centered approach that appreciates the multi-faceted influences on the body in health and disease. The structural, chemical, and psychological make up of a patient is always in some dynamic interplay between lifestyle and environment.  Health is the natural outcome when all systems function well and in an integrated fashion.

At its most basic, chiropractic maintains that general health is dependent on the structural health of the spine.  Chiropractic examines the relationship between structure and function and its impact on the nervous system. It is based on the premise that a spinal joint dysfunction can interfere with the nervous system and result in many different conditions of diminished health.

With an emphasis on non-invasive, drug-free manual therapy, the correct diagnosis and treatment and the subsequent prevention of disorders of the musculo-skeletal system is achieved through manual therapy including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation.  Chiropractic always emphasizes the patient's inherent recuperative abilities – the body's built-in drive to restore health.  However, this is a patient-centered model of therapy and it considers the patient ultimately responsible for maintenance of health.  My comprehensive treatment and management plan can include prescription of exercises, supplements (please see our Supplements section) and lifestyle counseling.

...a spinal joint dysfunction can interfere with the nervous system and result in many different conditions of diminished health and may be the primary underlying risk factor for almost any disease.

Spinal manipulation can be traced back over 3000 years to ancient China as well as in the writings of Hippocrates, the "father of medicine", the ancient Egyptians and many other cultures.  Modern manipulative therapy founded by D.D. Palmer 1895, in North America gained mainstream recognition during the 1980s and today is practiced in more than 100 countries. Debate within the profession and among the medical community has often been focused on the metaphysical aspects espoused by its founder.  In my view, there can be no debate – since we are as inextricably linked to a “spiritual” self as we are to flesh and bone.  My focus is on the body – in order to allow my patients to concentrate on all the rest.

Chiropractic always emphasizes the patient's inherent recuperative abilities....However, this is a patient-centered model of therapy and it considers the patient ultimately responsible for maintenance of health.
